FIRST IMPRESSION: CG Bombshell Volume Mascara

Thursday, January 16, 2014 - Post a comment (2) -

I’ve been hearing a lot about this Cover Girl Bombshell Volume Mascara, so when I saw it at Target the other day, I decided to pick it up.

I tried it for the very first time yesterday and decided to throw together a first impression for all of you. I put it to  the ultimate test…a day of work at Sephora.

Hold on. Let’s rewind for a second, so that I can tell you a little bit about this mascara…

The product itself is a dual sided mascara. There are two different steps, two different formulas, and two different applicators—one promising to add volume to your lashes while the other intensifies them.

Step 1: This is the “extreme volume basecoat” side of the product. Not to disappoint, it has the typical lash blast wand on this end…the larger and rubber-like ones. I’m not a huge fan of this type on wand on mascaras, but I digress…

This end did indeed add volume to my otherwise sad and droopy eyelashes, without making them clumpy, although it wasn’t any different than volume I get from some of my other favorite mascaras.

Step 2:This is where things got clumpy. This second step is the intensifying formula. You’re supposed to be able to add as many coats as desired, and it not only intensifies the volume that step 1 gave, but it also intensifies the black color of your lashes. I applied about two coats of this and you can see my results here:

Untitled-2(Sorry for the poor quality of the after photo, the flash on my phone is very whitening/brightening, but you get the idea)

While I was impressed with the results, I’m not that much of a clumpy lashes fan. I do like a little bit of clump to my lashes, because I do think that it makes them appear fuller, which my lashes without product are not. I learned from that though and will probably only apply one coat of each in the future.

Here are some small (but important) things that I noticed from my first wear of this product.

  • While I didn’t see anywhere on the box that it was waterproof, it held up all day/night without running or giving me raccoon eyes.
  • It didn’t flake one bit throughout the time I wore it.
  • The black is INTENSE. I loved the color.

I also had several people throughout the night ask me what lashes I had on, and become amazed when I said they were my real ones.

I have noticed one major con about this mascara, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO REMOVE. I’ve heard and seen this complaint from several other beauty bloggers and vloggers. I used my best waterproof eye makeup remover on my lashes, and I still have some of the product stuck to my lashes today.

If you decide to try this mascara—let me know what you think!

Juice cleanse: Day 5!

Sunday, January 5, 2014 - Post a comment (8) -

I DID IT. I MADE IT. FIVE WHOLE DAYS ON NOTHING BUT JUICE.

When I started this cleanse, I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into. At first, I wasn’t doing it to lose any weight or anything like that. I had been getting sick a lot recently, and I just wanted to reboot my system and get back on track.

I had seen Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead almost a year ago, and it did inspire me to go on a juice fast for weight loss purposes, but a juicer has never been in my budget. I was so thankful to my Mom for purchasing me one for Christmas.

I wasn’t prepared for, nor did I expect, the significant change in my mood, body, and mind. I’m not even able to properly describe it. My mind has just been clearer, I haven’t been as lethargic and lazy, and my body just feels lighter.

I made my normal juices today. I woke up feeling amazing, no cravings all day. Today was definitely the best day out of the 5. Maybe because I know that it’s the last day? We’re supposed to get an ice/snow storm tonight, so right after I finished at work, I went to the grocery store and picked up a few things to eat tomorrow. That is so weird to say, I get to EAT tomorrow. It will be my first meal of 2014! I know that, coming off of the cleanse, you’re supposed to only eat things that would go into the juice. While I will do that, I also picked up some chicken breasts and tilapia fillets that I will be eating.

I’m hoping that this cleanse will be the boost I need to get my eating right and healthy back on track!

With all of that said, I am officially down 10 lbs since I started this juice cleanse on Wednesday. I plan on incorporating at least one juice into my every day routine, because they’re just damn good.

I did not think that I would be able to complete this, honestly. I had days that were great and days that weren’t so great, and I just wanted to drive my hungry ass to the nearest drive through. I’m so glad that I stuck it out, though. I am extremely proud of myself.

I can’t wait to see how good I continue to feel with the juices in my every day life.

Thank you to all who followed along with me with this cleanse and these recaps, I know that I haven’t been the best blogger in the world, and I appreciate all of you who read and commented on these recaps. :)

Here’s to a great new year!

Juice Cleanse: Day 3 and 4

Saturday, January 4, 2014 - Post a comment (2) -

(I decided to smoosh days three and four together, because I was so tired when I got home last night, that I didn’t feel like posting)

Day 3:

I woke up feeling AMAZING. I had premade some juices the night before so I was good to go. I actually make up another recipe, that I shared on Instagram, that is delicious. I will share it here as well. 20140103_110205

BRANDI’S SCRUMDIDDLEY-UMPTIOUS JUICE:

(Again, this will make you two 16oz juices)

  • 6 Carrots
  • 1 Green Apple
  • 1 Red Apple
  • 1 Fuji Apple
  • Handful of Pineapple Chunks
  • 1 Large Piece of Ginger
  • 2 Oranges

As you can tell, I started running out of supplies, so I used different kinds of apples. This juice is DELICIOUS. It’s definitely a great morning juice.

I started to get some cravings towards the end of the day, but again, just pushed through them.

Day 4:

On Friday night when I got home, I premade my juices for the day. I made two of my delicious green juices, that I posted the recipe for in my previous post. 20140103_213012And two of my orange juices that I posted above.

Again, I woke up feeling great!

My mom and I had a baby shower to attend today, and that was so hard! There was food everywhere…sausage balls, pigs in a blanket, a cheese and meat tray, chilli, little baby cheesecakes, cupcakes, AND cake. Plus all of the alcohol and soda. I had a juice before I left and right when I came home though, so while I felt like I was missing out, my body wasn’t hungry.

I have one more juice left today, but I’m excited for tomorrow! It’s day 5! My last day!

I already have all of my juices premade and waiting for me in the fridge. :)

Juice Cleanse: Day 2

Thursday, January 2, 2014 - Post a comment (5) -

Last night was hard for me....around 7 pm, I decided that I was literally starving. I started feeling dizzy and thinking about sneaking downstairs to the kitchen to eat anything that I could find. Instead, I took a hot shower, got a big glass of water, and went to sleep. I had to convince my mind that I was NOT going to eat. The hunger was completely in my head. My stomach felt fine, full even. I knew that this would be a struggle though.

This morning I slept in, again. When I woke up I felt exhausted. I didn't want to get out of bed, I also had a slight headache and my stomach was growling. I did notice though, that my stomach feels lighter, if that makes sense. As someone who has struggled with weight and over eating, it was a very strange feeling for me. (Upon weighing myself this afternoon, I found that I was down 12lbs, I’m assuming that it’s water weight—which explains the light feeling that I was having in my stomach).

I decided that I would make the same breakfast juice that I had yesterday, the Sunrise Juice, which is 4 Carrots, 1 Beet and 2 Oranges.

I made myself two green juices, my lunch and dinner juice after breakfast. I’ve found that it’s a lot easier on me to make certain juices in bulk. Cleaning the juicer after making six different juices consecutively yesterday was so much work.

As I said yesterday, I wasn’t a huge fan of the Mean Green Juice that I made. I decided to tweak it a little bit and it was DELICIOUS. I’m so glad because that was a big problem for me, I woke up this morning dreading the green juice.

BRANDI’S DELICIOUS GREEN JUICE

(This will make you two 16oz juices—so adjust accordingly)

  • 1 Handful of Spinach
  • 1 Handful of Kale
  • 2 Lemons
  • 4 Green Apples
  • 1 Large Cucumber
  • 2 Pears

I didn’t add celery because that was the problem with the Mean Green, the strong celery flavor, I wasn’t feeling it. This one tastes more like lemonade, which is much more enjoyable. IMG_20140102_162055For my Afternoon Snack juice, I made the Sunrise juice, but added pineapple (the picture on the right is my afternoon snack juice). I still have two more juices to drink today, my dinner juice which will be more of my delicious green juice and then a dessert juice.

I’m hoping that tonight will be easier on me than last night.

I am feeling more energized than I was this morning and I just have an overall good feeling. I’m surprised that I haven’t had any real detox symptoms, with the exception of the headaches. I was worried because I’ve heard so many people talking about being extremely dizzy, nauseated, and…on the toilet pretty much the first two days.

Tomorrow is day three! I’m excited to see how I feel. Thank you to all of you following along with me!

Juice Cleanse: Day 1

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Long time, no blog…I know, I know. If you follow me on Instagram and Twitter (you should), you will know that not only am I still freelancing hair and makeup, but I’ve also gotten a job at Sephora. When I’m not doing one, I’m doing the other, and when I’m doing neither, I’m sleeping. It’s been an adjustment, it’s been a while since I have steadily held down two jobs. I will continue to blog when I am able, because I enjoy it so.

Also if you follow me on either of those, you will know that Santa got me the best present ever…(I’m saying that now, but we shall see how amazing I think it is in a few days). The Breville Juice Fountain Plus is my new best friend, because today I have started a FIVE DAY JUICE CLEANSE. Have you seen the documentary by Joe Cross, Fat Sick and Nearly Dead? I’m doing that--- Five Days, only juice and water. No Food! For five days, I will be following his guided reboot plan found here. After work last night, I hit up Target and got everything on his shopping list and more. I plan on following his recipes and making a few of my own over the course of the next five days. 20131231_192111(I also needed melatonin and deodorant…)

I had the bright idea to vlog it all, which was going well until I decided I didn’t want to put on makeup this morning. I have been microvlogging/blogging on my Instagram and will continue to do so.

Every morning, I start out with 16oz of hot lemon water and my breakfast juice. I hate lemon, but I’ll get over it. This morning I had the Sunrise Juice – 4 Carrots, 2 Oranges and 1 Beet. It was surprisingly delicious. I was afraid that my first juice I made would be disgusting and my immediate reaction would be “SCREW THIS!” 20140101_101837The next juice wasn’t as savory, but it was tolerable. It is the Mean Green juice, here are the ingredients:20140101_114056 (1)This is when the pictures stopped. I ended up making mine and my mom’s juices for the remainder of the day. No one told me that juicing takes so much work! Make a juice, clean the juicer, make another juice…and continue that forever.

All in all, you drink 6 juices a day. I have two more left for Day 1, my dinner and dessert juice. Since I woke up so late today, I was a little behind.

So far—I’m feeling great! I feel very energized, even without my usual daily caffeine IV. I noticed that I do get that hungry feeling every now and then, but I think it’s more so in my head than anything else.

I can’t wait to see how I’m feeling tomorrow and for the rest of my cleanse.

The Sweater Weather Tag!

Wednesday, November 27, 2013 - Post a comment (5) -
Good Evening, Beauties! I’ve been seeing this Sweater Weather Tag all over YouTube these days, and I figured what better time to do it than Thanksgiving Eve! Although right now, it’s more so three thermal shirts, a hoodie and coat weather.  What’s up with that? Just sayin’…
britney-spears-x-factor-funny-confused

  1. Favorite Candle Scent? This year, the Pumpkin Cheesecake candle from Target has been one of my favorites.
  2. Coffee, Tea, or Hot Chocolate? While I enjoy all three, Coffee is going to win any time of the year.
  3. What’s the best Fall memory that you have? I’m not really sure that I have a favorite “Fall Memory”…I guess that I would choose any time that I got to be with my family during the holidays. Since we live in different states, that is very rare, but I did spend last Thanksgiving with them and it was great!
  4. Which makeup trend do you prefer: Dark Lips or Winged Liner? For Fall? Obviously dark lips! Although I always love a good winged liner.
  5. Best Fragrance for Fall? Definitely Viva La Juicy Noir. It’s a rich interpretation of the signature Viva La Juicy scent. Viva La Juicy Noir highlights the succulent ripe berry notes and gourmand accents while adding a touch of honeysuckle and a sultry hint of sandalwood.
  6. Favorite Thanksgiving Day Food? ALL OF IT. Seriously, I could never pick just one thing. Turkey and Ham, all of the casseroles, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce (the kind from a can!), buttery rolls, all of the desserts… My mouth is watering knowing that I get to eat all of that tomorrow. My favorite part is probably making a freaking amazing next day sandwich with all of it.
  7. What is Fall weather like where you live? Living in Tennessee, I always say that Fall is my favorite day of the year. Literally. We get like one really awesome crisp fall day before everything turns to shit and you have to wear layers and layers to leave the house.
  8. Most worn sweater? This year it’s actually a pullover…my Dame Life Camel Raglan Fleece Pullover. I wear that sucker every time it’s cold and I have to leave the house.
  9. Must-Have Nail Polish for this Fall? My go-to Fall polish every year is OPI’s Lincoln Park After Dark. It’s such a ‘vampy’ color. I love it.
  10. Football games or jumping into a pile of leaves? What kind of question is this? Jumping into a pile of leaves, of course! I’m forever five years old.
  11. Skinny Jeans or Leggings? Either is fine by me! They both look super cute tucked into boots!
  12. Combat Boots or UGGS? UGGS. I don’t care what anyone says, they’re comfortable and I love them.
  13. Is Pumpkin Spice worth the hype? Honestly, no. I’d much rather have a White Chocolate Mocha. While I am a fan of all things Pumpkin flavor, Pumpkin Spice is…different.
  14. Favorite Fall TV Show? Right now, I am loving Witches of East End on Lifetime.
  15. What song gets you into the Fall spirit? I didn’t really know Fall Spirit was a thing… Fall for me is just the transition to CHRISTMAS. You know what song gets me in the mood for Christmas? This one-
